Two days of workshops with Richard Gill for singers from Gippsland choirs including concert performances.
Richard Gill, AO, Founding Music Director and Conductor Emeritus of Victorian Opera, is one of Australia’s pre-eminent and most admired conductors specialising in opera, musical theatre and vocal and choral training and is internationally respected as a music educator. His work in developing young musicians is recognised world-wide. Richard has been Artistic Director of the Education Program for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Artistic Director of OzOpera, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, and is currently Artistic Advisor for the Musica Viva Education program and Music Director of Sydney Chamber Choir.
He has held several other important posts including Dean of the West Australian Conservatorium of Music (1985-1990) where Prom Coast Singers’ MD, Claudene-Marie Adams, was one of his inspired students.
After the final concert of the SingSouthGippsland2! Choral Festival Prom Coast Singers’ chairman, Andrew Jamieson, was on hand as Celia Rosser presented a delighted Richard Gill with a framed print of one of her iconic banksia paintings.
Many will remember the first Sing South Gippsland! with charismatic composer / conductor Stephen Leek bringing together five Gippsland choirs and over 100 singers for choral workshops and performances by individual choirs and massed singing.
The same highly successful format was followed this year with each choir presenting its own program and also a song rehearsed by all choirs and sung jointly.
