Gwen Derrick with Wayne Moloney at Music Theatre Guild awards 2010
CONGRATULATIONS GWEN
Gwen Derrick, the foundation stone of Wonthaggi Theatre Group, was presented with the Edith Harrhy Award for and Outstanding Contribution to Musical Theatre when the Music Theatre Guild of Victoria awards were announced at Ringwood on Saturday 4 December.
In 2009 Wonthaggi Theatrical Group celebrated its fortieth anniversary and Gwen has been involved in the administration of the group through all that time, working as a performer, director, costume manager, milliner, mentor and font of theatrical knowledge.
Gwen was delighted to be presented with her glass “Bruce” brick. She was also most surprised.
Chatting to friends at the after party, Gwen had many stories of happy moments in the ups and downs of her theatrical life while she was looking forward with much enthusiasm to her involvement in Wonthaggi Theatrical Group’s next project, the Fred Ebb / John Kander musical, Cabaret.

The Music Theatre Guild of Victoria Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation for the ongoing support, encouragement and development of non-professional music theatre in the state of Victoria, Australia. Victoria has a very strong non-professional music theatre tradition.
The Guild Awards for Excellence is an annual awards programme run by the Guild on behalf of the music theatre community.
Inaugurated in 1987, they reward excellence in a number of categories, and are designed to acknowledge the talent and expertise in the diverse productions of Guild member companies. They are not intended as a competition – to receive a nomination is an achievement in itself.
The nominees and award winners are selected by a panel of seven judges, at least three of whom must see each production submitted for judging. Each judge also presents an individual award, usually for an achievement that has captured his/her notice but has not been nominated for a major award.
The annual Awards Night is held in December at a leading Victorian theatre. As well as the presentation of the Awards, it features excerpts from selected shows in a celebration of Victorian non-professional musical theatre.
The Guild Awards Night is a great way to wind up the theatre year, get together with your theatre friends to see items from other shows produced during the year and to have a drink and a laugh at the famous Awards Night supper.
